This Celebration is Designed to Honor the History and Genesis of the Great Divide.
The Live Event Will Be In 4 Parts...
Engaging and entertaining conversations with the people who actually created the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route and those who were integral in shaping the Bikepacking movement as we know it. These people helped lay the early foundation for the sport we are experiencing today!
A special screening of Ride the Divide with participating athletes & crew answering your chat comments in real-time during the screening.
Live video Q&A after the film.
Pre-recorded conversations in the event's Screening Room with industry leaders discussing the current state of Bikepacking and adventure touring. We felt after learning about the history during this Live Event it was important to also discuss what is currently impacting our community surrounding inclusion, diversity, and access.
Live Conversations With Veterans Of The Great Divide...
Engaging hosted interviews lasting about 15-20 minutes with each. In chronological order...
Michael 'Mac' McCoy
25 years ago Mac, as an employee of Adventure Cycling Association, began researching and mapping the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route.
The organization published the GDMBR maps between 1995 and 1997.
in 1999 Mountain Bike Hall of Famer, John Stamstad, is the first to race/time-trial the GDMBR - Thelongest off-road route in the world.
His time is 18 days and 5 hours.
Inspired by Stamstad's ITT, in 2004 The Great Divide Race is created. A small group of 'Bikepackers' begin racing unsupported along the GDMBR Jay wins this race in 2007.
In 2006 Joe creates MTBcast.com and begins posting audio call-ins from racers on the GDMBR allowing a world-wide audience to listen in on their adventures.
*still coordinating guests
Matthew Lee in 2008, not satisfied with the Great Divide Race starting at the US/Canada border, creates the Tour Divide Race starting in Banff, AB the actual mapped beginning of McCoy's GDMBR.
Mary was the first woman to complete the Tour Divide Race and has continued to be an influence in the sport through her bikepacking clinics and trips for women and beginners.
Eddie has photographed and published articles covering nearly every Tour Divide Race. He has been on this route probably more than anyone.
Remembering Mike Hall
Mike Hall currently is the fastest person to complete the Tour Divide Race. He was killed in 2017 during a race in Australia. His time is 13 days 22 hours.
